The Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has celebrated its overall best graduating students over the past four academic sessions, with remarkable trends emerging under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi.

A review of records shows that female students have dominated the top positions in three of the last four years, with the Department of Economics consistently producing two out of the four awardees.

In the 2019/2020 session, Olajide Omojarabi of the Department of Statistics emerged as the overall best graduating student with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.83.

He was succeeded in 2020/2021 by Zafirah Eneyamire Isah from the Department of Chemistry, who recorded a CGPA of 4.89.

The 2021/2022 session saw another female scholar, Mariam Oyiza Ibrahim of the Department of Economics, clinch the title with a CGPA of 4.84.

Most recently, in the 2022/2023 session, the Economics Department produced yet another outstanding graduate, as Beauty Ene-Ojo Enyo-Ojo secured the top honour with a CGPA of 4.92, the highest in the four-year cycle.

The data underscores two striking developments: a rising dominance of female scholars and the growing academic influence of the Economics Department. While Statistics and Chemistry produced one laureate each, Economics has led in back-to-back sessions, positioning itself as a hub of academic excellence at FUL.

Observers note that this trend reflects both the determination of female students to excel in higher education and the university’s drive to promote academic competitiveness across faculties.

With four years of records already setting a pattern, the big question remains, which department will produce the next overall best graduating student at FUL?
