The Hong Kong delegation won a record number of prizes at the 51st International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva, securing nearly 300 awards including a record 12 Special Awards and the prestigious Grand Prix.

Representing 44 organizations from local universities, research institutes, technology companies, government departments and schools, the delegation received 57 Gold Medals with Congratulations of Jury and 98 Gold Medals, setting a record result for the Hong Kong delegation.

The Oasis One International Ltd claimed the Grand Prix for its tropical marine finfish aquaculture industrial chain solution. Special Awards winners included the Drainage Services Department’s pipeline inspection robot “T300”, InnoHK research projects from the University of Hong Kong and Chinese University of Hong Kong, and other innovations from City University, Baptist University, Polytechnic University and MTR Corp.

Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Sun Dong congratulated the delegation for “shining on the global innovation and technology stage”, attributing the success to Hong Kong’s strong research capabilities and talent advantages.

He said the SAR government will increase resources for research and talent training, and align with the nation’s 15th Five-Year Plan to develop Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology center.

The Development Bureau and its departments have also achieved a new record at the exhibition, winning 36 awards for the 36 projects presented by the teams.

Secretary for Development Bernadette Linn Hon-ho congratulated the teams from the DEVB’s Works Branch and its various departments for their outstanding performance.

Linn said that many of the award-winning projects at the exhibition introduced novel solutions in artificial intelligence, robotics and drones, earning them international recognition.

The Civil Engineering and Development Department won a total of 10 awards, including four top accolades of gold medals with the congratulations of jury, two gold medals, three silver medals and a bronze medal.

Director of Civil Engineering and Development Michael Fong said he was encouraged by the department’s remarkable achievements this year.

The in-house team of the CEDD developed the fifth-generation AI Landslip Warning System, applying artificial intelligence and big data technology to analyze the rainfall and landslide data in Hong Kong.

This system, which won a gold medal and congratulations from the jury, significantly improves the accuracy of risk assessment and issuance of warning signals.

The International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva, now in its 51st year, is the world’s largest invention exhibition.
