The National Institute of Forest Science will push for “development and research on the flowering/deletion and seed production prediction system using artificial intelligence (AI) and big data” over the next five years.

According to the Korea Forest Research Institute on the 19th, this study is to respond to changes in the timing of enlightenment and loss due to climate change and the reduction of forestry personnel. It will investigate the amount of seeds generated every month starting this month by incorporating technologies such as drone remote sensing, digital image analysis, and AI prediction algorithms into seed production management.

Jeju Cheonji, Kyunghee University, and Haneul Forest Engineering, an agricultural company, will participate jointly.

It is expected to increase accuracy through measured data and prediction models by individual and period, and to reduce investigation personnel and costs by using drones.

Dr. Koo Ja-jeong of the Korea Forest Research Institute said, “It will contribute to the digital transformation of forest seed management by increasing the accuracy of forest seed collection and production prediction.”
