Firms will not commit resources until they know what projects are going ahead

International infrastructure players have snapped up close to a dozen local engineering consultancy firms in recent years, in anticipation of an impending Irish building boom in vital water, energy and transport assets.

But they are looking to this week’s Budget for reassurance that a pipeline of big projects is on the way that makes further investment in their newly acquired Irish offices worthwhile, said a well-placed industry source.
