Startup uses AI to automate the review of construction drawings and specifications
Bluebeam has acquired mbue, an AI startup focused on pre-construction and document workflows.
According to Bluebeam, the “talent and technology” investment will give the company specialised expertise in drawings, submittals and construction-focused AI.
The acquisition will also be used to enhance Bluebeam Max, a subscription offering that delivers automation, intelligent markups, and AI-powered reviews.

“Bluebeam is already used by millions of people in our industry, so bringing mbue’s technology into a larger ecosystem creates an opportunity for much greater impact at all stages of a project.”
mbue currently offers two products: Smart Overlays and Submittals.

mbue Smart Overlays is designed to “quickly and accurately” compare two sets of drawings or specifications, detecting every addition, deletion, and modification.
mbue Submittals uses a proprietary AI model and computer vision to analyse drawings and specifications — including electrical schedules — and automatically extracts the required product information. The platform can generate submittals for light fixtures, switchgear, panels, devices, and other materials, streamlining a traditionally time-consuming and error-prone process.
