Australia’s rapidly expanding data centre pipeline is driving demand for the people, products and expertise needed to build the infrastructure powering the nation’s digital future.
Launching in 2027, Data Centre Build Expo will bring together the people responsible for delivering this infrastructure, with a dedicated exhibition and two-day conference focused on the challenges, processes and solutions involved in planning, designing, constructing and commissioning data centres.
Taking place from 16–17 September 2027 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre and co-located with Converge Expo, Data Centre Build Expo has been created to serve the professionals building the tangible infrastructure behind Australia’s digital economy.
While many data centre events focus heavily on artificial intelligence, cloud computing, software and digital technologies, Data Centre Build Expo will focus on the actual construction of the data centre itself.
From structural construction and specialist building materials through to cooling, power, connectivity, fire protection and engineering, the event will bring together the companies and decision makers responsible for turning data centre projects from plans into operational facilities.
Prime Creative Media Head of Marketing – Events Molly Hancock said the event was created to address a clear gap in the Australian events landscape.
“There is a huge amount of conversation happening around AI and the digital technologies driving demand for data centres, but someone still has to physically build these facilities,” Hancock said.
“Data Centre Build Expo is about the people and solutions making that happen. We want to create a dedicated meeting place for the contractors, engineers, developers, operators and suppliers responsible for delivering the buildings, systems and infrastructure that keep our digital economy running.”
The event will also feature a dedicated two-day conference, providing an industry-focused program examining the practical challenges and opportunities involved in delivering data centre infrastructure in Australia.
Conference content will address the issues facing project teams across the development lifecycle, from project planning and design through to construction, commissioning and facility operations.
“Data centre development is an incredibly complex construction challenge,” Hancock said.
“These projects bring together major power requirements, sophisticated cooling systems, specialist construction, strict reliability requirements and demanding delivery timelines. The conference will give the industry a place to have those practical conversations and share what is actually working on the ground.”
Data Centre Build Expo will be strategically co-located with Converge Expo, creating a broader ecosystem for professionals involved in Australia’s major construction and infrastructure projects.
Converge Expo’s 2025 event attracted 5,927 attendees, with 65.4 per cent of attendees having purchasing power and 45.1 per cent working as contractors or subcontractors, providing Data Centre Build Expo with access to an established audience of construction decision makers.
Data Centre Build Expo will welcome data centre owners, operators and developers alongside contractors, subcontractors, engineering and consultancy firms, facilities and maintenance teams, utilities and infrastructure providers.
Exhibitors will include businesses providing the products and services required to physically deliver data centre facilities, from steel fabrication and modular construction through to HVAC, precision cooling, power systems, fibre infrastructure, fire protection and specialist engineering.
Hancock said the launch comes at an important time for Australia’s construction and infrastructure industries.
“Australia is investing heavily in the infrastructure needed to support its digital future. Data Centre Build Expo is about making sure the industry delivering that infrastructure has a dedicated place to connect, learn and do business,” she said.
Data Centre Build Expo will take place on 16–17 September 2027 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
