FAIRMONT — A time for celebrating and remembering the life of Albert Theodore “Ted” Schaefer will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Ted passed away Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026, at his home in Fairmont. Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Albert Theodore “Ted” Schaefer was born on May 23, 1949, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Albert Sr. and Imogene (Ottinger) Schaefer. He attended Hawken School for Boys, excelling in football and wrestling, graduating with the class of 1967. He attended Denison University, majoring in Physics.
In 1990, Ted was united in marriage to Marcia Torgerson/Hansen, from Fairmont, Minn. He is survived by his son, Daniel Schaefer and stepson, Nathan Hansen.
Ted’s career was vast with an entrepreneurial spirit. He was a man of many talents, a business owner, web designer, IT computer specialist, Real Estate professional and Engineering specialist. He was an Auto Cad Programmer as well as the author of the Auto Cad Productivity Book.
He was passionate about downhill skiing across the United States and Europe. His dogs, Mitzie and Tevia were loved and spoiled by Ted.
Ted loved his projects while wearing his favorite T-shirt talking about his “Romantic Walk Down Home Depot Aisles”. He was a lighting specialist, touting the best lights on his Pontoon during the 4th of July fireworks as well as innovative lighting solutions inside and outside his home.
Ted enjoyed music and concerts at the Red Rock Center. He helped volunteer with Fairmont “Let’s Go Fishing” and was an active member of the DFL.
Most of all, Ted loved his family. He loved spending time on the lake and his retirement years at home in Fairmont, Minn. He has traveled extensively with family, making many memories with his grandchildren in New York and Washington D.C. Most of all, he loved riding roller coasters with his grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Marcia; sons, Daniel Schaefer (Maggie Sacolick) of Columbus, Ohio, and Nathan Hansen (Mandi Abigt-Hansen) of Nashville, Tenn.; sister, Lynda Fromm; grandchildren, Mackenzie (Mark) and Chase; as well as other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Sr. and Imogene Schaefer and a brother-in-law, Barry Fromm.
