Revizto has released Bridging the Gap: The 2025 Digital Design & Construction Report, a global deep dive into the trends and challenges redefining the architecture, engineering, construction and operations (AECO) industry.
Packed with data and insights from industry leaders, the report explores topics from rising infrastructure demand to the growing push for more collaborative workflows. For owners, architects, engineers, contractors and developers, it serves as a guide to what lies ahead.
Revizto surveyed more than 2,000 professionals worldwide, gathering input from key decision-makers including chief information officers, building information modelling (BIM) and virtual design and construction (VDC) leaders, and digital construction specialists. These respondents represent firms with significant influence, most with revenues above $100 million and project portfolios valued between $50 million and $500 million.

The survey findings are supported by secondary research and expert commentary from Revizto’s network of industry leaders and customers. The result is a report that blends data, trends and real-world examples from projects pushing the boundaries of design and construction.
“This report highlights what many of us have long understood: improving collaboration is the clearest path to boosting productivity in construction,” says Roman Baran, senior manager of digital construction at Canary Wharf Group. “With the right tools, like Revizto, we can bridge the gaps between design and delivery to reduce rework, minimise budget overruns and improve outcomes.”
What’s at stake
Construction projects continue to grow in scale and complexity, yet teams still face labour shortages, outdated processes and budget blowouts. Nearly half of leaders report their projects exceed budgets by 11 to 20 per cent, even when contingencies are included.
Technology adoption has stalled, not due to cost but because teams lack the time to implement it effectively. The report reveals the barriers holding the industry back and the enablers helping it move forward.
It provides a snapshot of growing demand areas, the main drivers of cost overruns, and the technologies keeping project teams aligned. It also shares stories from projects such as the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum renovation and Snowy Hydro 2.0, demonstrating how teams are using collaboration and data to deliver ambitious projects under challenging conditions.
“At IIMBE, we see digital transformation not just as a technological shift, but as a deeply human endeavour – one that depends on building trust, aligning incentives and embedding capability across the entire supply chain,” says Steve Appleby, chief strategy officer at IIMBE.
“As this report shows, the industry’s biggest barriers are rarely about tools. They’re about people, procurement and policy. That’s why we believe the future belongs to those who combine collaborative technology platforms like Revizto with the right commercial frameworks, procurement strategies, and leadership behaviours to drive adoption and accountability.”
