Bird launches bike share programme in San Diego and Ontario
After announcing the launch of its bike share programme in June 2021, Bird has now introduced its e-bikes in San Diego and Windsor, Ontario.

In June 2021, micro-mobility operator Bird announced the addition of shared e-bikes to its fleet of micro-electric vehicles and the launch of the Bird Bike. Bird currently operates e-scooters in more than 250 cities globally, and has now announced that its shared e-bikes are available for use in San Diego and Windsor, Ontario.

According to the operator, the shared Bird Bike delivers on Bird’s commitment to broadening access to eco-friendly transportation around the world at a time when global demand for bikes and scooters has never been higher. With shared e-bikes, Bird will partner with cities that do not have, or are looking to supplement, an existing bike or scooter-sharing network to offer the highest quality vehicles and operations designed to meet the mobility needs of all riders.

“Since launching [in mid-October 2021], we are already seeing riders take to our new bikeshare,” said Tim Harter, Director of Government Partnerships at Bird. “We are looking forward to offering our shared bikes to residents and visitors across San Diego. The combination of electric bikes and scooters will help to replace even more car trips with sustainable mobility.”

“Shared e-scooters catapulted shared micro-mobility to the centre stage of eco-friendly transportation in cities by providing more than 150 million zero-emission trips globally,” said Travis VanderZanden, founder and CEO of Bird. “We are launching our shared Bird Bike and Smart Bikeshare platform to meet fast-growing demand from cities and riders for more sustainable transportation options while expanding our serviceable addressable market by five billion trips per year.”

Riders in Newark, New Jersey, will be able to access the distinctive e-bikes in late October 2021, with more cities across North America and Europe following later in 2021.
